Message from Our Alumni President

Dear Gentlemen of Theta Iota Chapter of Sigma Nu:

I would like to extend a personal invitation to all alumni to attend our 10th Homecoming celebration at MTSU against Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns on Saturday, October 22, 2005. It will be a time to show pride for our school and needless to say for our “little fraternity.” If you have not returned to MTSU lately, Homecoming will be a wonderful opportunity to see all of the changes that have taken place on campus and visit our fraternity’s home.

The Theta Iota Alumni Chapter sponsor two official events every year: the Alumni Banquet and Homecoming. In April, our “Decades of Charter” banquet was an amazing experience that allowed our alumni to rekindle old friendships, build new ones, and share in our active chapter’s many accomplishments. For those of you who were unable to attend, Homecoming will be another opportunity to return to MTSU. Last year, 150 Sigma Nus, family, and friends came back home to MTSU. Check out the pictures from last year’s event.

The anniversary banquet finally taught us a valuable lesson. If there is an alumnus you want to see at an event, challenge him to be there with you. Simply saying, “I’m not going to attend because I will not know anyone,” is an excuse we can no longer make. We must be proactive and encourage our closest friends in our fraternity to join us at these events. Remember - 220 Sigma Nus, family, and friends celebrated at this year’s banquet because of challenges from you.

The Alumni Chapter is here to assist with that challenge. Please include with your completed reservation form the names of the top five brothers you want to see this fall. The deadline for registration is Friday, October 7th. We will have someone contact these gentlemen on your behalf and let them know that October 22nd is marked on your calendar. Or, if you prefer, you can download our alumni database from our website to locate phone numbers so that you can make the first call. As you and I both know, it is much more meaningful when the call comes from you – someone with whom you already share a fraternal bond (i.e. pledge brother, big brother, or little brother).

The day will commence with our annual alumni meeting at the fraternity house on Greek Row. We will be electing Alumni Chapter and Housing Corporation officers at the meeting and will update our alumni on the past year’s accomplishments. Based on feedback from alumni, we will shorten our meeting to last no more than an hour. Breakfast will also be served for our brothers and guests.

Afterwards, we will adjourn to the Homecoming parade, which will be immediately followed by an alumni cookout at “Tent City” next to Peck Hall. The Active and Alumni Chapters will sponsor the pre-game cookout; all alumni and guests are welcome. The cost for the cookout is $5/attendee, which will cover the cost of food and soft drinks. About thirty minutes before game time, we will turn off the grills and make our way into the stadium for the 4:00 p.m. kickoff.

Immediately after the game, we will hold our annual post-game Homecoming reception at the fraternity house. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served and “Sigma Nu Re-re-visited,” the video presentation shown at “Decades of Charter,” will be played.

If you’ve been waiting for a “less formal” event to attend, there is no better time to come out and celebrate Homecoming with us. I encourage everyone to help us support our Blue Raiders and to share in the fraternal bonds we all hold so dearly.

When you get to “Tent City” on the 22nd, just look for the biggest tent and the largest fraternity. You probably won’t believe how much your “little fraternity” has grown.

Hope to see you on Saturday, October 22nd!

Fraternally,
Michael Davis (QI 213)
Worthy Commander
