Gentleman of Theta Iota Chapter of Sigma Nu:
On Saturday, April 30, 2005, the Theta Iota Chapter
will celebrate the 35th anniversary of its chartering and the 10th
anniversary of its re-chartering. The celebration will kick
off that morning with a golf scramble, followed that
afternoon with an open house at the fraternity house, and conclude
that evening with
what will be a momentous banquet. We estimate record alumni
attendance at this once in a lifetime gathering, and I personally
want to make sure that you will
not miss out.
First, I want to say thank you to the
brothers who were initiates of the chapter prior to our re-chartering
and played a vital role in Theta Iota's current success. As a member
of the group that helped bring our beloved chapter back to MTSU,
I distinctly remember that we chose to recolonize Sigma Nu among
other fraternities because Sigma Nu already had money available
from the sale of the original house on Main Street. Without those
leftover funds, we would never have had the opportunity to invest
in the property on Greek Row that we
have today. Once more, our chapter owes a great deal of gratitude
to these brothers of the seventies and eighties.
In addition to our new home, the chapter also has
experienced unprecedented growth and dominance locally as well as
nationally over the past ten years. The active chapter continues
to excel at every level possible. For the past three years, Sigma
Nu has been awarded the "Outstanding
Chapter Award," which distinguishes us as the top fraternity
at MTSU. At Grand Chapter 2004, Sigma Nu Nationals awarded Theta
Iota "Rock Chapter
Honorable Mention" and recognized Theta Iota as a Sigma
Nu - Top Ten Chapter. These achievements are milestones
for our chapter and our actives should be formally congratulated.
However, with all of our many chapter accomplishments,
it is difficult to comprehend why our current alumni support is
partially indifferent rather than outright exemplary. One of the
main reasons alumni tell me they do not attend alumni events is
because they are afraid they will not know anyone. In order to clear
this misconception, I call on each of you to challenge your closest
buddies to be at this years event. I cannot stress how important
your attendance will mean to you and your brothers.
I also want to assist you with this challenge. Please
include with your completed
reservation form the names of the top five brothers you want
to see this spring. The deadline for registration is March 30th.
I will contact these gentlemen on your behalf and let them know
that April 30th is marked on your calendar. Or, if you prefer, I
will contact you personally with their phone numbers so that you
can make the first call. As you and I both know, it is much more
meaningful when the call comes from you someone with whom
you already share a fraternal bond (i.e. pledge brother, big brother,
or little brother).
I can honestly say I have never been more proud to
be a Sigma Nu than now. The current state of the chapter reminds
me so much of the guys that re-chartered this fraternity. Their
hard work and love for our fraternity is what has made it the best.
At Homecoming 2004, many
alumni could not believe that this was their chapter. It is so rewarding
to see that what we established is now the biggest, the baddest,
and the best.
All of us wanted to be a part of a winner and now
our chapter is one. We all played a role in that success, so I encourage
you to come back and share in the memories of the past thirty-five
years. This is your chance to reconnect with guys you may not have
seen in years. Lets make sure there is always a place for
young men to build the fraternal bonds that we
share.
There has never been a better time to come
together to celebrate our chapter's success. I hope to see you there.
Fraternally,
Michael Davis
